Products using biomass-derived materials

Biomass originally was a concept used in ecology to indicate the amount (mass) of biological resources (bio), but here it is defined as “Organic resources derived from renewable organisms excluding fossil resources (however inorganic resources such as seashells that are directly produced by living organisms are included) *.”

Biomass is produced by living organisms through life-sustaining activities as long as there is life and solar energy and is considered a sustainably renewable resource.

In 2009 the Basic Law for Promotion of Biomass Utilization was enacted. The effective use of biomass not only reduces dependence on fossil resources such as oil but also improves environmental issues facing modern society and promotes recycling and so is expected to contribute to the improving the environmental problems facing modern society as well as creating a recycling-oriented society.

In order for an eraser to demonstrate erasing performance, it must be able to always erase with a new surface created by abrasion against the paper. At the same time the eraser must be able to eject eraser dust, typically by using fine particles blended into the eraser. These particles affect the eraser’s comfort, so it is common to use mineral-derived particles, however the “MONO Natural” eraser uses in part biomass-derived materials such as powdered scallop shells. The light color of the “MONO Natural” eraser is due to the natural color of the scallop shell powder. The “MONO Natural” eraser combines the eraser performance and quality of the “MONO” brand with the use of biomass-derived materials.
