Starting this year to commemorate the designation of November 1st as “MONO Day”, Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. is running a campaign to solicit MONO “fan names.” The initial application period ran from September 10th to October 6th, with 2,565 applicants and a total of 3,169 responses received.
The responses were internally reviewed based on criteria such as affinity with the MONO brand, ease of remembering, originality, and universality, and narrowed down to the following four proposals. Users were then allowed to vote* on social media for one week starting October 21st, and we are pleased to announce that “MONIA” has been selected.
*Voting was conducted through X’s poll function, Instagram Stories’ poll function (conducted twice), and Instagram comments. A total of 6,343 votes were cast, with “MONIA” receiving the top spot with 1,979 votes.

About “MONO Day.”
Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. has designated November 1st as “MONO Day.” MONO Day was certified and registered as a “commemorative day” by the Japan Anniversary Association (headquarters: Saku City, Nagano Prefecture) on January 11th of this year.
Starting this year, we will be positioning November 1st as a day to thank our MONO fans and will deepen communication with them through user participation campaigns and other activities.
The reason why the anniversary was chosen as November 1st is because MONO comes from the Greek word “MONOS,” which means “one and only,” and the date with consecutive “1”s is appropriate. Also, the MONO symbol mark is a three-color stripe of blue, white, and black, so the date with three “1”s standing up is appropriate.
